BBAC INVITES EVERYONE HOME ON THE RANGE AT ARTBLAST 08- A FAMILY SUMMER ARTS CELEBRATION

BIRMINGHAM, Michigan, June 6, 2008…Tickets are on sale for what might well be called the “rip-roaringest” family event this season.  artBLAST, the quintessential summer arts celebration at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC), takes place July 3. The event –with entertaining art adventures for all ages, a chuck wagon supper, a petting zoo, and live music by the Twistin’ Tarantulas – is capped off by the City of Birmingham’s annual fireworks.

The all-inclusive artBLAST tickets are specially priced at $125 for a family (2 adults & up to 2 children), $50 for an adult, and $30 for seniors and children under 16. These prices remain in effect as supplies last until June 25. Special artBLAST Patron Tickets are $300 and limited in quantity. Patrons receive 4 tickets to the event (2 adults & 2 children) on-site parking, complimentary drink tickets and a souvenir (artBLAST) lawn blanket.

On Thursday, July 3, the center opens for artBLAST ticket holders at 7:00 pm.  The BBAC is located at 1516 S. Cranbrook, Birmingham, MI 48009 between 14 and 15 Mile Roads.  To purchase tickets, please visit the BBAC website, www.BBArtCenter.org or call the BBAC at 248-644-0866.

There is free parking at Groves & Seaholm High School with complimentary SMART shuttle service for ticketed patrons. The events at the center take place rain or shine on July 3 regardless of rescheduled fireworks.

Returning as artBLAST signature sponsor is the TriMas Corporation. “TriMas is very proud to be the signature sponsor of artBLAST again,” commented Grant Beard, President and CEO of TriMas Corporation. “The artBLAST program is designed to provide families with a great opportunity to share time together in a creative environment.  Attendees will become active participants, not just observers at this special event.  TriMas is committed to helping our communities by continually supporting innovative and educational programs such as artBLAST.”

All the evening’s fun from create-and-take art projects to supper and entertainment are included in one ticket. Kids of all ages will make art of bandanas, leather bracelets and metal tooling under the supervision and instruction of BBAC faculty. The chuck wagon supper features chicken & ribs, baked beans, corn-on-the-cob and a pie-stand. The Twistin’ Tarantulas are a beloved rock-a-billy band with a touch of Western swing.

The annual City of Birmingham fireworks take place at approximately 10 PM, adjacent to the BBAC at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course.

The BBAC also offers patrons a way to wind down after the pyrotechnics (and avoid traffic back ups) at afterBLAST with munchies and nostalgic videos for the entire family.  All artBLAST tickets include admission to afterBLAST.

Since its inception in 2003, artBLAST, formerly known as Summer Solstice, has raised close to $400,000 for the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Proceeds benefit educational and community programming. Additional 2008 corporate sponsors include Caesars Windsor; Comerica; The Law Firm of Deneweth, Dugan & Parfitt; Fifth Third Bank; Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn; Snethkamp Chrysler Jeep; and others.

The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center is a regional non-profit art center committed to promoting the visual arts with classes for all ages and levels. Each year the BBAC offers 500 classes for 4,000 students including year round classes and art camps. The BBAC campus features nine classroom studios, four galleries with free exhibits open to the public, art camps, special events, and a retail gallery shop.
